Do you use the Libby App? Here are 7 great tips!

The Montgomery County Library District provides easy access to thousands of eBooks and audiobooks through our Overdrive site. You can borrow them for free with your library card (Montgomery County residents only – Del. Co. residents use delco.overdrive.com).

Try Libby for your current device and start reading or listening for free. (Patrons can also read in a web browser or use the Overdrive app.)

Here’s a summary of the new features from the latest Libby update:

  1. Holds and Loans from Multiple Libraries Systems

If you use Libby through multiple library systems, there’s now a small icon, known as a ‘gem,’ next to each title. The gems feature a specific color for each library. When you tap the gem next to each title, it will change color indicating the different libraries where you have the hold or the loan. Tapping the gem will also give you additional information about your holds, such as your estimated waiting time. (Our local counties require residents to use the one system where you reside so most of us can’t borrow from multiple counties; however, Philadelphia Library System will let non-residents borrow from their Overdrive titles.)

  1. Current Loan Status and Your Reading Progress

For books you’ve started reading, you will now see a progress bar on your Loans Shelf indicating how far along you are. On this shelf you will also see how much longer you have for that loan.

  1. Your Place in the Hold Line

The wait list information has been simplified so that you can instantly see your estimated wait time for each title. Tapping the Calendar Icon provides information about the total copies available, the number of people waiting, and how you’ve progressed in the line.

  1. More Options for Tagged Titles

By popular request, you can now borrow or place a hold on titles directly from your Tags Shelf. Tags are a way to track the books you’ve enjoyed or want to read in the future. Tagged titles also show options to read a sample of that book or learn more about it.

  1. Libby Shelf Summary

The Shelf Summary is a new view with helpful information in one place such as new and expiring loans, your current read, and any holds that are ready to borrow.

  1. Libby Shelf Tips

Helpful Shelf Tips have been added above your loans and holds to give you important information about your books, including when titles are ready to renew, how many others are waiting, and prompts for early return.

  1. Jump Around and Search

Based on user feedback, your search results now have page numbers so that you can now jump to any page in the library list by tapping on the page number option.

So give Libby a try today for reading eBooks or downloadable audiobooks. (Montgomery Co. Card holders can also watch streaming videos from Overdrive but only in the Overdrive app or a browser.)
