The 14th Annual Charlotte Miller Simon Poetry Contest submissions were accepted in early 2019. Hundreds of poems are received each year, and winners are chosen in each of three divisions: Children (grades 1-6), Teens (grades 7-12), and Adults (ages 18 and up). Prizes awarded for each division include $100 for 1st Prize, $75 for 2nd Prize, and $50 for 3rd Prize.

The awards ceremony was held March 10, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Lower Merion Township Administration Building. Here is some information about the award ceremoney from Lower Merion School District’s web page:

“Lower Merion School District was well-represented in the winner’s circle of the 14th Annual Charlotte Miller Simon Poetry Contest sponsored by the Ardmore Free Library as three students and a teacher were recently recognized for their outstanding submissions to this year’s competition. Penn Wynne Elementary School fifth grader Sage Bowman won first place in the Children’s Division (Grades 1-6), while Harriton High School sophomores Sophie Weinstein and Michael Medveckus each earned Honorable Mention accolades in the Teen Division (Grades 7-12). An LMSD staff member also found himself among the honorees in this year’s contest as Harriton English teacher Jason Fritz claimed the top prize in the Adult Division (Ages 18+). The LMSD honorees were recently celebrated at a special Award Ceremony, which took place on March 10 in the Lower Merion Township Building. Each of the award-winning poets received a certificate of achievement and had the opportunity to share their poem with those in attendance.” Click here to view a slideshow of pictures from the ceremony.

From Jonathan Miller’s introduction to the Charlotte Miller Simon Poetry Contest, March 2013:

“Charlotte always had a deep love for poetry and read it to her sons from the time when they were toddlers. She also encouraged them to write poems and stories of their own. Fluent in Yiddish, she wrote poetry in English reflecting her Jewish soul. As her own harshest critic, Charlotte could rarely be persuaded to submit any of her poetry for publication. Nevertheless, her poems won several competitions and have been published in a number of literary journals.

Charlotte Miller Simon passed away in August 2004, and it is with loving memory this annual poetry contest is dedicated to her. She would have liked nothing better than to have it at the Ardmore Library.”
