Ludington Library Materials Now Available by Request

About 160,000 books and audio materials from Ludington Library have now been moved to the Lower Merion Library System (LMLS)'s Off-Site Storage area. These materials include nearly all of the collection genres formerly found in the Ludington Library, such as adult fiction, history, gardening, Juvenile picture books, Music CD's, Young Adult paperbacks, and mysteries, among many others. These materials will remain in Off-Site Storage until Ludington Library re-opens sometime in Spring 2011. However, the materials are now available for borrowing by placing a request in the Library's online computer system, and then selecting a branch of LMLS for pickup. Click here to access the Lower Merion Library Web Catalog or go to www.lmls.org and start a quick search.
Placing request for the Ludington collection in off-site storage works almost the same way as placing requests for bestsellers and for items located at other branches. To start placing requests for Ludington library materials, you will need a computer connected to the internet; your library card; and your account password to login to the system. First, navigate your computer's web browser to the Lower Merion Library Web Catalog (also accessible from the library's web page at www.lmls.org). You may be asked to login (with your library card barcode or patron login name and password) but you can also do so when you find an item you wish to reserve.
If there are available copies located at any of the other Lower Merion Libraries, then you may either visit these libraries to pick up the items, or you may place a request (and be charged a $0.25 reserve fee). You will not be charged the reserve fee if the only item available in the system is located at the Off-Site Storage facility. This is because the Off-Site Storage is a closed stacks storage facility for library materials - it is not a public library in which patrons can also visit, browse, pickup, and borrow books and media on their own.
The remaining library materials in Ludington Library are new books, DVD's, and other high-use materials; these materials are to be moved to a temporary library facility, known as “Ludington Lite,” when that facility is open to the public.
Contact the Reference Desk at any of the Lower Merion Libraries for access to specific books and other materials while the Ludington Renovation project progresses.
