Ann Simon – Watercolors

Exhibit dates: June 5, 2017 – July 7, 2017

Ann Simon’s paintings and dedication to teaching have made her one of the best known artists in the Delaware Valley.

Born in Havertown, Ann has painted since childhood.  She received a scholarship from high school to the Philadelphia College of the Arts (now known as the University of the Arts), graduated with honors, and furthered her study of painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  After a successful career as an illustrator and graphic designer, Ann has been a professional painter for over twenty-five years.

“Painting gives me great joy and is a never-ending challenge.”  She considers herself an impressionist working mainly in watercolor and oil in the studio and in “plein air”.

Ceramics by Pat Gallner

MLAC Ceramists Group

Exhibit dates: June 5, 2017 – July 7, 2017

Marsiella Catanoso, Carol Koemeter-Cox, Stuart Fertman, Pat Gallner, Joseph Kasper, Katrina Piechnik, and Karen Sacks.

The seven ceramicists, whose work is on view June 5 to July 7 2017, come from diverse professional backgrounds and have equally varied approaches to pottery.

They all met at Main Line Art Center as members of the “Cone 10 Guild” – named for the type of glazing techniques they were exploring. Although the Guild didn’t last, their involvement with shaping and decorating clay did.

The current display shows pieces glazed in a gas-fueled kiln at high temperature and with little oxygen in the air of the enclosed kiln. “Cone 10” is a potter’s technical gauge of the kiln’s heat. Also included are pieces glaze-fired at lower temperatures with more oxygen in the air (referred to as “cone 6”); and there are some that are not glazed at all, but burnished with a fine clay slip called terra sigilata before bisque firing, then patterned with smoke, horsehair and other substances.
