Lower Merion Township Residents

All Lower Merion Township residents may register at any of the six Lower Merion libraries for a free library card which is good in any of the six libraries. There is no minimum age to obtain a borrower’s card but a parent or legal guardian must sign the registration form for a child under 18 years of age. Your signature on the Registration Form indicates your agreement to accept financial responsibility for all materials and associated fines.

You must register in person and will be asked to supply identification to verify that you live in Lower Merion Township. Acceptable forms of ID are:

  • Deed or Lease
  • Utility bill with Property Address
  • Driver’s License/Registration
  • Voter Registration Card
  • Checking Account Statement with Property Address
  • School ID (K-12)

Cards will be issued to you immediately and will be good for 2 years. Please note that some of our online services will not be available to you after your card expires. Remember to choose a password if you wish to access your account from our on-line catalog or use our Internet workstations. Passwords may be added at a later date but you must apply for a password in person at any of the six libraries. (Manage Your Account)

College students are considered Lower Merion residents as long as they live on the campus of a Lower Merion college or university, or if they live off campus within Lower Merion Township.

Non-Lower Merion Township Residents

If you do not live in Lower Merion Township but you do reside in Pennsylvania, the Access Pennsylvania Program, also known as the Statewide Library Card Program, entitles you to borrowing privileges at participating public libraries. The Lower Merion Library System is a fully participating member of the Access Pennsylvania Program.

You must have a valid library card from your home library with the blue Access Pennsylvania sticker on it before you can register at a Lower Merion library. The registration procedure is then the same as above, except that you will not receive a Lower Merion library card.

Non Resident Fees

If your home library is not a participating Access Pennsylvania library or you do not live in Pennsylvania, you may obtain Lower Merion Library System borrowing privileges for an annual fee, which is the equivalent of the cost of library service to the average Lower Merion taxpayer.

You are exempt from paying the non-resident fee if you are:

  • A person who owns residential or business property in Lower Merion
  • A student attending a public/private Lower Merion school (K-12)
  • A teacher in any public/private Lower Merion school

All other non-residents are asked to pay an annual fee of $80.00. You will receive a Lower Merion Library System card without an Access Pennsylvania sticker. This card will be good for just one year, but it will entitle you to full borrowing privileges in Lower Merion.
