Public libraries have been nationally ranked over the past decade by two ratings services: The HAPLR Index and Library Journal.

  • The HAPLR Index ranked LMLS in the top 2% of public libraries for circulation per capita, visits per capita, and materials per capita during multiple years of its publication
  • LMLS was twice awarded STAR LIBRARY status from Library Journal.

State & Local Ranking

  • LMLS Circulation Rate per capita was 19.19 in 2013, depite having two libraries closed
    for part of the year. The state average circulation per capita during this period was 5.49.1
  • Lower Merion accounts for 7% of Montgomery County’s population and 20% of its library circulation.1
  • Lower Merion’s staff efficiency, as measured by circulation per full-time equivalent staff member, is superior.1
